Like the major themes regarding Norse mythology. The story was rather simple, but it was masterfuly atmospheric – and what gave it another layer to me were the references/themes. Especially the parts with the bloodlines, where you had to jump between them and your child was crying in the background. Like, obviously, not in a straightforward jumpscary way, but… they made me feel thoroughly… uneasy and it was great. The nightmare sequences were TERRIFYING to me.
The comic panels with the sometimes corny, overly poetic narration set the mood briliantly, and Max’s lines in general were really fun to listen to (and the delivery was great, too). As I said, it felt more like an expansion to me.Īnd here’s… where Max Payne 2 fell flat for me, in a big way. You could say that if it was already good than it shouldn’t reflect bad on the sequel, but that’s the thing – I think I had a right to expect something new by the sequel. The bullet time was alerady superb for me in 1, and I didn’t notice much of a difference in how it worked in 2. Most weapons were the same between the games, with only a couple new ones, but to be honest I didn’t feel much difference shooting the Colt Commando from 1 and an AK-47 from 2, for example.

The most important thing was probably the changing of shootdodge so that you didn’t lay on the ground so long without the chance to shoot.īut the rest? To me, 2 felt more like an expansion than a full on sequel – there was hardly any really new stuff. Well, I may be retarded or something, but to be honest… I didn’t notice that much of an improvement in 2 compared to 1. Especially the music (in places when it played) was much nicer and more atmospheric than I’d expect from a shooter – both the main themes (from the menus) were great and I think I may actually listen to them on my phone from time to time now. Sound and muscic were comparable, I’d say – and really, really good in both games.
And in one he had this constipated face, but… it was distinct. But then again – I actually PREFERRED Max’s look from 1, I think. No more nightmarish constipation faces of 1. The models and textures are MUCH better, the people actually look like people and all that. Here, obviously, Max Payne 2 has the edge – at least in the graphics department. In general I must say that, for me, Max Payne 2 was actually worse – and certainly less enjoyable. I only recently played Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2 for the first time ever and thought that you might be interested in my feelings about it. (I however have had vivid memories of being scared shitless by the nighmare sequences in Max Payne 1 when my older brother played it at the time). Believe it or not, despite gaming being one of my favourite hobbies, I’ve never played any Max Payne games until just a few weeks ago.
